Krypto #60: The Krypto Impostor from Dog Planet

From: Superboy #122 (July 1965), plus Action Comics #325 (June 1965)

A solo adventure for Krypto begins when he eavesdrops on Clark Kent's science class and learns that Sirius is called the "Dog Star". And off we go to a handy wormhole!
It would be highly unlikely that what Earthers call the Dog Star would have a system inhabited by dogs somehow, but this is the Silver Age. OF COURSE that's what happens. Not only does Sirius' one inhabited planet house canine humanoids, but they have a particular fixation on Krypto himself, because in the Superman universe, all telescopes in the galaxy are tuned to Earth and the exploits of the last Kryptonians. He's received like a king.
A problem arises, however, when a boiling hot dessert sprays juice in Krypto's eye and it hurts!
They imprison this "foul faker". He can't be the real Krypto. And indeed, a powered, flying Krypto soon shows up.
So apparently, if your moon reflects only red light, it's just like having a red sun in the sky, and a Kryptonian will lose his powers so long as the moon is visible, even if it's otherwise daylight. Fine. So who is this other Krypto who trades on the legend and spends his time collecting gifts and blowing up giant cat statues as the dog-men applaud?
He is Bonzor, an abused dog who wears a Mission Impossible mask, is given bones laced with magic potion that, for a time, gives him Krypto's powers, then is forced to collect tributes and bring them home lest he be brutally beaten. Unfortunately, though bright for his kind, he doesn't always understand his powers, and a lot of the loot gets burned and melted as he flies too fast. Meanwhile, Krypto escapes his cage and comes across his double. Instead of fighting, they become friends.
So Bonzor learns a few tricks and gratefully agrees to help Krypto. When he gets home, he steals one of the magic bones and brings it to Krypto. The Dog of Steel regains his powers in spite of the red moon, and...
The evil dude, scared out of his wits, admits everything to cops, and before the bone's effects evaporate, Krypto flies away from Sirius, thinking they should really call it the Krypto Star. Super-Vanity powers, ACTIVATE!

Meanwhile, in Action Comics #325... Superman recalls one of his adventures as a baby on Krypton, when Jor-El accidentally zapped him with an enlarging ray that turned him into a rampaging kaiju baby. Who's fault was it? Puppy Krypto's:
Well, not really. I mean, why are you testing science rays in your living room, Jor-El? That seems damn irresponsible.

Also around the time of these publications, Krypto stories were reprinted in 80-Page Giants, specifically in #10's Superboy All-Menace Issue, #11's The Greatest Superman-Luthor Duels, and #13'a Jimmy Olsen issue.
